Recently, Japan's Ministry of health, labor and welfare confirmed that two men had throat cancer due to their participation in the accident handling of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, and one of them had died.

The two nuclear accident handlers who were exposed to suffering from throat cancer were employees of Tokyo Electric Power Company and related companies, the operator of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Two patients, one in his 60s and one in his 40s, were diagnosed in late 2018 and early 2019, and one of them died shortly after the diagnosis.

According to Japanese media reports, the two entered the core area of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant after the nuclear accident in March 2011, mainly responsible for debris cleaning and radiation data monitoring. After assessment, the total amount of radiation received by both staff members exceeded 100 millisieverts, while the acceptable amount of radiation for ordinary people in a year was only 1 millisieverts. Because the cancer was caused by participating in the handling of the Fukushima nuclear accident, it was recognized as an industrial injury.

However, it is worth noting that the whole process from the diagnosis of laryngeal cancer to the identification of industrial injury lasted more than two years, and even the staff in their 40s failed to wait for this result before they died. According to statistics, up to now, eight staff members have been identified as having caused various cancers due to their participation in the handling of the Fukushima nuclear accident.
What is more worrying is that according to Japanese media reports, the radiation of 1100 millisieverts per hour was still monitored near the pressure vessel cover of unit 2 of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, which is more than 1000 times the acceptable radiation of ordinary people in a year.

Affected by the nuclear leakage accident, as of August this year, about 20000 people in relevant areas were still forced to leave their hometown and take refuge in various parts of Japan. Although some areas that have completed decontamination work will be reopened after next spring, some Japanese media pointed out that because of fear of nuclear radiation, how many people are really willing to return to their hometown? The outlook is uncertain.
